John 5:43 - William Styles

John 5:43, “I am come in My Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another come in his own name, him ye will receive.” This explains the reception that Jesus endeavoured to gain as the Messiah of the Jewish nation. He sought to be received in natural Faith, and not spiritual Faith. This is obvious, from the words “another” “ye will receive.” He could not mean that they would receive an imposter with spiritual Faith, but with natural credence and trust, such as He sought to induce them to repose in Himself.
