Gadsby's Hymns # 837 ——L.M.——J. Hart
“Repent ye, and believe the gospel.” Mark. 1. 15
1 Repent, awakened souls, repent;
Hear the good tidings God has sent,
Of sinners saved, and sins forgiven,
And beggars raised to reign in heaven.
2 God sent his Son to die for us,
Die to redeem us from the curse;
He took our weakness, bore our load,
And dearly bought us with his blood.
3 In guilt’s dark dungeon when we lay,
Mercy cried, “Spare;” and Justice, “Slay.”
But Jesus answered, “Set them free,
And pardon them and punish me.”
4 Salvation is of God alone;
Life everlasting in his Son;
And he that gave his Son to bleed,
Will freely give us all we need.
5 Believe the gospel, and rejoice;
Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice;
His goodness praise, his wonders tell,
Who ransomed our poor souls from hell.

Come Ye Sinners Poor And Needy - Gadsby's Hymn # 723
Gadsby's Hymn # 723 Come Ye Sinners Poor And Needy
723——8.7.4.——J. Hart
Come and Welcome to Jesus Christ. Isa. 55. 1
1 Come, ye sinners, poor and wretched,
Weak and wounded, sick, and sore;
Jesus ready stands to save you,
Full of pity, joined with power;
He is able,
He is willing; doubt no more.
2 Let not conscience make you linger,
Nor of fitness fondly dream;
All the fitness he requireth,
Is to feel your need of him,
This he gives you,
’Tis the Spirit’s rising beam.
3 Come, ye weary, heavy laden,
Lost and ruined by the fall;
If you tarry till you’re better,
You will never come at all.
Not the righteous,
Sinners Jesus came to call.

"...by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves..." - John Foreman
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Eph 2:8-9)
"Whatever is man's duty is God's claim; and whatever is man's duty is demanded to be of him; and consequently if faith unto salvation be the natural man's duty, then faith is accordingly demanded of man, and should be of him, and a great and grievous fault must lie against the natural man for not having faith of himself. This is how the matter must stand for faith to be of man, and to be the natural man's duty. But this is altogether opposed to the apostle's inspired testimony of faith, saying, 'By grace are ye saved, through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast, Eph 2: 8,9. These words were not spoken in any way to find fault with the Ephesians because their faith was not as a matter of duty produced of themselves, nor yet to say that it should have been of themselves, but to commend the great love and free favour of God, and to cut off all occasion of boasting after the flesh, either about the matter of their salvation, or the means by which they obtained and enjoyed it; shewing that the one was as perfectly of grace, and of grace only from first to last, as the other is; saying, that faith is not only the gift of God, but that it is not Of man, either by human production, or by divine requirement; for that God had determined that it should not be of works, and so not of duty, lest any man should boast."
"...He must needs go through Samaria." (John 4:4) - Robert Hawker
"...He must needs go through Samaria." (John 4:4)
"...it is not the least subject of moment to observe, the needs be, which is said for Jesus going through Samaria. It is true indeed that if Christ was going into Galilee, (see verse 43,) as he now came out of Judaea, he could go no other way. But it doth not follow, that there was a necessity that he should go at that time into Galilee. But whatever other causes there might be to this constraint, the conversion of this woman to the faith of Christ, and certain of her countrymen also, became sufficient cause. This was the time, the place, the manner, the method, and the whole train of events, linked in the chain with it; which, from all eternity had been marked for Christ's calling to himself this woman, and other Samaritans, who were effectually wrought upon, to the knowledge and belief of Jesus. Reader! what a sweet thought is it, that all things are arranged with infinite wisdom, for all the purposes of Christ's Church and people, in the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God. What the world calls chance, and accident; the believer cannot admit in his creed. Every thing, from the numbering of the hairs of, our head, to the bringing home the Church to glory, is arranged, ordered, and appointed; and to a minuteness, which nothing can counteract, by the stratagem of men, or devils. Dan. 4:35. Rom. 11:36."
